May "Tide Pools" Blog Hop

Image
Welcome followers and new comers! The art challenge theme for the month of May over at Art Elements was  "Tide Pools" .  It’s REVEAL TIME!!! You can also follow the links at the end of my blurb (if you're still awake) and see other artists' work inspired by this month's theme!! I decided to take this theme challenge rather literally. I work better in specifics rather than abstract but I did stretch my comfort zone by  using free-form crochet as much as possible  to replicate creatures and shapes you might find in a tide pool.  The idea of working free-form with NO patterns or stitch counts makes me break out in hives and was a challenge all of its own to my control freak, precision mind. However, I think the end results are very authentic and creative in a seriously one of a kind way!! I started out by choosing concept photos to use for basic shape ideas and for selecting my color palette.  Then I gathered yarn that fit in the palette from my ample sta

Art Challenge Inspiration

Hi there friends and followers! I am participating in a mixed medium Art Challenge this year with fellow artisans over at  Art Elements . Each month is assigned a different theme and hosted by a different artist. This is only my 2nd month participating and last month my friend Laney was nice enough to host me on her  blog so that I could make something for the horse theme. This awesome Seahorse (pattern by Patchwork Moose ) was my contribution and I LOVED seeing what all the other artists made for the month of April.  You should take a moment to check out last month’s horse challenge  creations. These are some seriously talented individuals. It was SO much fun and inspired me so much that it's the reason I created a blog of my own in the first place!!  The theme for the month of May, selected and hosted by Lesley Watt, is  Tide Pools .  ðŸ˜² I simultaneously thought “awesome!!!” and “Well crap, what does that mean?? I need specifics! I need parameters!”  Panic set

The TOUR of the TOTEMS: Part 1

Image
Hello again! Since I'm new here, I thought you might like to get to know me and my "nest" a little bit better. And what better way to do that, than to take a tour of my work/head space and the totems that surround me in my living room/studio. They are what bring me joy and inspiration, so they might give you good insight to me (perhaps more that I may realize) and also be a way to share OTHER people's artistry that I happen to appreciate and covet.   ðŸ˜ƒ We will take a photo tour around the room and I will give a little nod or a link to each item as we go. This will be a several segment post since I have quite a LOT of totems gathered over the years to make up my nesting happy place. So strap on your seat belts, put your seats and tray tables in their full upright positions and ENJOY the journey!!!  We will start at this side table and work our way around the room... Here we have my very FIRST prototype Baby Groot!! I chose a yarn (Knit Picks DK City Tw
